Peacock, India National Bird

According to legend, the founder of the Maurya dynasty, Chandragupta Maurya, was rumored to be the child of peacock tamers-- Mayura-Poshakha in Sanskrit.

The peacock was declared the National Bird of India because of its rich religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions. It’s a species of peafowl native to South Asia.
