Water Lilies floating on the Kerala backwaters
On the backwaters by Kumarakom, one can observe the unique ecosystem where freshwater from the rivers meets the seawater from the Arabian Sea. We see water birds such as kingfishers and darters, and animals such as turtles live in and alongside the backwaters. Palm trees, pandanus shrubs, coconut and banana trees provide a green hue to the surrounding landscape. Crowned with the beautiful water lilies, no wonder Kerala was ranked as one of the “50 destinations of a lifetime” by National Geographic Traveler. It is truly a favorite among many tourist attractions.
