Khmer, An Empire of Temples

The Khmer Empire was the largest empire of Southeast Asia that flourished between the 9th and 15th century. The remains of this empire can be seen at the fabled temples of Angkor, unrivaled in scale and grandeur. The ultimate expression of Khmer genius is found in a World Heritage Site called Angkor Wat, and is matched by only a few select spots in the world such as Machu Picchu or Petra.

    Siem Reap | The Temples of Angkor

    Today, we see an astonishing profusion of ancient monuments in both size and number. Not to mention the intricate artistry of an idealized representation of the Hindu cosmos carved in stone. A tour at the impressive National Angkor Museum offers the story of Angkor and the Khmer empire in context before we explore the temples.
    Explore Angkor Wat temple which is considered the heart of Cambodia. This sprawling complex is crowned with soaring towers and embellished with intricate sculptures and cravings. In the "Great City" of Angkor Thom, visits include the famous Bayon Temple, the South Gate, Bapoun Temple, the Terrace of the Elephant and the Terrace of the Leper King. Hike up Phnom Bakheng for a spectacular sunset view of Angkor Wat.

    Siem Reap | Banteay Srei, Ta Prohm, Floating Villages

    A short drive to Banteay Srei, a 10th-century Cambodian rose-pink sandstone temple. It is the most elaborately decorated of all Angkor’s monuments. Continue to the Citadel of Women, Srah Srang (Royal bathing place), and the unique brick sculptures in Prasat Kravan.
    Visit the jungle-smothered ruins of Ta Prohm, one of the most evocative of all Angkor’s ancient monuments. It is half-consumed by the encroaching forest and was a movie filming location for Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Take a boat ride to visit Kampong Phluk, one of the fascinating lakeside floating villages with floating houses and stilted houses on Tonle Sap Lake. This is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. Return to Siem Reap to visit Les Artisan D’Angkor and Siem Reap Market (if time permits).

    Luang Prabang | City Tour, Khuangsi Waterfall

    Luang Prabang blends together the architectural styles of Laos and colonial France. The whole town is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    Start at the National Museum at the former Royal Palace. Explore the richness of Lao culture, from the days of the early kings right through to the last sovereign. Followed by visiting a trail of temples (wat) including Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai that is famous for its gold bas-relief, Wat Sensoukarahm for its golden façade and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong which represents classical Laotian architecture.
    Drive to the mesmerizing Khuang Si Waterfalls. Return to town and take a gentle 300 step walk up to Mount Phousi, Luang Prabang’s highest hill to see the sacred stupa and a spectacular panoramic view.

    Luang Prabang | Morning Market, Pak Ou cave

    Visit the morning market and return to the hotel for breakfast.Then cruise upstream on the Mekong River with a visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. We will also visit villages known for rice wine making, silk weaving and traditional Saa paper making.

    Luang Prabang - Hanoi | Organic Rice Farm

    Spending a morning as a traditional rice farmer at the Living Land Rice Farm. A day to learn the 14 steps for turning rice seeds into edible sticky rice, natural herbs and traditional medicine. Try your hands at farming and at a handicraft workshop. Lunch at the farm overlooking the surrounding rice fields.

    Hanoi – Full Day City Tour

    Hanoi is one of the most ancient capitals in the world. Travelers can find well-preserved colonial buildings, ancient pagodas, and unique museums within the city center. This French colonial city is known for its delectable cuisine, vibrant nightlife, silks and handicrafts, as well as a multi-cultural community with Chinese, French and Russian influences.
    Today begins with a blast from the past. See Vietnam's traditional ways of life and replicas of old homes. Visit Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in the city. Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi’s first university namely the Temple of Literature. Take a traditional cyclo ride through the intriguing Old Quarter. Visit “Hanoi Hilton”.

    Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) | Half-Day City Tour

    Ho Chi Minh City has risen from the Vietnam War to become a modern city with sleek skyscrapers while still retaining its elegant French architecture and broad boulevards.  It is dotted with ornate temples and pagodas.
